There's a rumor in the Ayre...

...that one of our members/moderators has a new 2 channel preamp, but has been keeping remarkably quiet about it....

... I wonder who that could be.... I hear he's also done some first hand spying at the local factory recently...

    Okay, fess up! :B

What's this all about? Can't just post something like that, and not give the juicy details!

I'm going to be picking up the Ayre K-5x Pre Amp, in about a month. Still mulling over the CD Player. But the CX-7 is in the running....a strong runner...I might add.

    Do tell......Do tell.... :B

Besides buying anything from a company called Lector is just to scary

Okay, okay I fess up, gees I can't slip anything past you guys.....

Was having issues with my Marchand Passive pre and all the long cable runs (35'), so I popped for a K-5x.

It doesn't have very many hours on it, because I've been busy tearing out the old spa and deck in preparation for pouring a new slab and getting a new spa. ......

It's strange going from a passive to an active unit. The passive was the absolute word in transparency, almost to a fault = to revealing? The K-5x is pretty sweet, not as transparent as the Marchand, but very nice listening. The volume control is so smooth it's almost an erotic experience manually adjusting the volume ..... :E

Anyway, let me get a few more hours on the unit and some serious listening behind me and I'll post a better review. Since it arrived virtually at the sametime as the Benchmark DAC, I'm learning both at the same time.

                Keeping up with the ThomasW's....

No, I didn't pull the trigger (what's with all these gun metaphors, anyway?), I spoke to Gary....

                Got Preamp?

Notice how nicely the blue dB readout matches the blue pilot LED on the DAC1?

Yeah, those are all the CD's I was listening to last night!

I only WISH I had that much time! And tomorrow morning I leave for Singapore- gee, guess I should have gotten an internaltional version, so I could take it with me!

Hey, when you have Aragon Palladium's and sensitive speakers, you don't NEED 40 or 45 to rock and roll!
