    CinemeekII Updated Photos

CinemeekII is finally approaching completion. I still need to put in:

    new curtains
equipment cabinet door (front and rear)
    acoustic treatments
    an infrared blaster

but that's it. Here's some photos of things currently. Please excuse the distortion, I'm gonna have to reshoot the door photo.

Looking in the door at the front wall.

Looking back towards the door and the front wall.

Looking in the door at the other side wall.

    The equipment cabinet (sans door).

The entry door and sidelights into the theater room.

Fantastic job David! You do such fine detail work, finished out very nicely! That's a lot of CDs and albums there on the wall!

    Come do mine now, ok?

        Dave!

        Sweet :T

        If ever I am in Houston...I`ma comin`knockina!!!

I really like the way you put your RPTV into the wall....next house...I`ll do the same and allow the FP to slide in front of it....really allows the speaker placement of the mains to be properly placed....

        Good job!
Got a nice rack to show me ?

George, that'll require a larger room. : Barring any more unforseen life changes, that'll be Cinemeek III, located on Orcas Island. It will be custom built from the ground up as a separate structure added on to the existing house.

Thanks for the nice words guys. As small as the room is, pushing the RPTV into the wall made it feel much larger than it did when the set was out in the room. The soundstage is MUCH improved as you can imagine.

I like it David... cool. I like the way you have those shelves built above the RPTV.

A big album lover I see. We've got a few ourselves that we treated many years ago with LAST and seem to still be hanging on to them.

                  Good work!

Yeah George, the way him and Jen fight, he has to be pretty handy with his hands. JK :W Really, just a joke folks.

                            David:

May I ask what size your room is?

And is it possible to get a drawing of the room, with any closets, doors, equipment arrangement, seating, etc.?

Only if it's easy to do or if you already have one handy, though.

                              Grego,

It's an 11'-3" deep x 13'-3" wide x 9'-0" high room. I had the floorplans available in the old Gallery. I'll post them in this thread tonight when I get home.

                              Lex,

What, me 'n Jen fight? Surely you jest. I just go "Yes, dear" and there isn't a fight. . . .

Wow, that really puts it into perspective when you show what you started with and where you're at now, David. Great job! I may have missed it, are you moved back to Texas now? Or are you going to keep your house up here in Washington?

Hey Chris, are you on a little "crew rest" time? I hope!

Yeah, I'm back in Houston, at least for a while. We're absolutely keeping the Orcas Island house - that's our dream house. It was just too difficult to try and do the "split family" thing for an extended period. We'll just have to try and move up once Jen's company decides she's not quite so business critical. Oh well. . . sniff.

It DOES give me lots of time to come up with the plans for CinemeekIII, though! :T

                                                Question about cabinet

                                                Wow! Great Job.

Can I ask how you built the equipment cabinet? Is it an audio rack or custom built? I have been looking for something similar to put in our finished basement, and seems like custom building is the only way to go. Can you please give me more details on it such as dimensions, type of material (if wood); are the shelves adjustable?

I will show the contractor your pics.. maybe he can build something similar for me, but if he wants too much then I'll have to build it myself (I dont have much carpentry exp and I dont have many tools either)
                                                Thanks

Vasu, that's a Lovan Classic II equipment rack. I built the "closet" so that the rack would fit inside while resting directly on the house's concrete slab via it's three spiked feet. Each leg of each level is shot-filled for extra damping. Each wood shelf has rubber isolation pads between it and the horizontal steel support members. I've been toying with the idea of cutting some rather thick (1" or greater) solid wood for shelves, using different wood types, just to see what sonic differences it'll produce, but just haven't had the time. . . .
                                                  .

                                                      Thanks Patrick.

It's funny you should say that. Going in there, shutting the door and just sitting down for a bit relaxes me too. I don't know if it's the look, the feel, the quiet of the room or what, but it works.

Good thing too - I need it some times (two teenagers). :
