    Wire/cable Management

With all the gear I have, I have quite a rat's nest of wires behind my racks/RPTV. I am sure many of you can relate! This may be a dumb question but here goes. Does anyone know if there exists a managment system, sort of a conduit, that can be placed behind your racks/tv? I'm thinking specifically of something that not only hides the unsightly mess of wires but can shield and separate power cords, speaker cables, and interconnects.

    Please advise.

    Thanks....

I was thinking of doing something as well. I'm going to search the 'net. If I find anything wothwhile, I'll put it here.

I keep trying to clean up the mess behind my rack but each time even with the best intentions it ends up looking horrible...there are simply too many wires running all over to try and make much order of it.

I think I found my answer. Visit the Smart Home website. They have exactly what I am looking for and it is very inexpensive. I am going to try it out to see if it works --- hey, it's only going to cost me ~ $45 so if it doesn't work, my wife won't shoot me!

I'll report back on my hopeful success (or failure).

Man I'm afraid to look behind my rack anymore, let alone trying to organize the mess. Scary 8O

            Here, want a real mess:

Not sure what your rack looks like but I partially enclosed the back of my rack with painted cut outs allowing just enough room for rear connections and some air flow space. You can't really notice any of the cabling from the front view.

Fortunately I installed PVC pipe in the walls for running cables out to the RPTV and speakers.

              Hi Jim,

A couple of things I've found are:

              1) Don't tightly stuff all the cables into one run of tubing. I did this with our upstairs system and some interaction between a couple (or several) of the cables caused my TV picture to degrade very noticably. Pulling the cabling back out and breaking it up into 2 separate tubes with plenty of room solved that problem.

              2) If you have extra speaker cable, don't coil it into loops as it can cause a nice irritating hum in your speakers. Run it in a long S-curve layout.

If you are doing it on the cheap (like 98% of what I do), then you may want to drop in at the automotive center and look for that flexible automotive conduit. It comes in various sizes, it's black and works very well. It won't really organize anything but it does give everything a nice clean look.

Yup that's the same stuff you can buy at any automotive center. No shipping and you can buy it today.

For Canadians it's available at Canadian Tire.

Not sure if this is what you had in mind, but that's identical to what I used.

You can also get it at major hardware/lumber chains like Lowe's and Home Depot, if one's available.
