Sony? never again for my clients!!

I recently completed a custom HT for a client
that had all Sony Eqt. in 2 rooms
HT room has a new overstock 1272Q CRT,
    777ES receiver,and sony dvd player
2nd room has a 400Q and a TAES9000 and Sony DVD player. 1st the 400Q had to go in for the green
fog, then again for a finger print and dust
blotches on the pixel block it is still in service for that repair. This is the on that got me
The 1272Q wont hold its convergance It drifts to the left by one line of hatch,So down it comes and
in for service.Service says they cant find the problem So Back up it goes Guess what problem
is still there. What is Sonys responce "Just
bring it back in" yea right lets see 1/2 day to
put it up the first time 1/2 day to bring it down and take to service 1/2 day to put it back up from service not to mention the $$I had to pay my Tec
for calibration.Sony said they would replace the projector and then said oh sorry we have no more so you will have to bring it in for service .Now my customer has a nice hole
in his ceiling where the 1272Q was and a empty
ceiling bracket where the 400Q was Oh I almost forgot I had to exchange the DVD player It was
defective and I had to update the ROM and remote
for the TAES9000 man I look and feel like an
ass for my client.I will either get my $$ back
for the 1272Q or get a new projector for my client
this ones headed for small claims court.Any one else have simular problems ??? I am so pissed
I almost used caps for this post VENTING !!!
    Cheers XHT

XHT, I would like to say that you are alone in your thoughts about Sony. But my personal experience has been to the contrary and I share you pain. 3 years ago, I Think, I bought a Sony XBR 53" RPTV. This one was a demo. It lasted 1 month. They replaced it with a brand new one, unboxed on my front porch, and it lasted 1 month. In total disgust, I traded it back for a 60" Elite for 1200 more bucks, and you know what? Never had a screwdriver took to it, nothing.

Ok, well, you know things happen, so maybe the average person would say well, I just had a run of bad luck. But I digress.

Also in the last year or so, I have had the following occur:

    1. Sony portable MD 300.00, lasted 7 months before it screwed up. Now, if you don't have a disc protected when you plug it in, it goes to record.
    2. Sony MD 920 deck. Lasted not 1 day before it was spitting out discs every other time you plugged it in. Still does that.
    3. Sony computer, won't stay connected to internet. I even tried 2 other modems, but to no avail. Even though my laptop normally stays connected for days at times on the same phone line. Also freezes occasionally during operation. 4. Clock radio, 80 bucks, now has one of the digital readout lines burned out.
    5. Portable/car CD player, all buttons screwed up after 3 years use.
    6. Sony DV-7000 DVD player, freezes on dual layer discs. To it's credit a great CD player though.
It has had this problem for about a year though, so you know how old that makes it, being bought in July the first year DVD was introduced. What, 97?

It should be noted that I have had no other electronic problems during this time including Minolta, Lexicon, Toshiba, Proceed, Radio Shack, Parasound, JVC, Panasonic, and more.

I am very disgusted with Sony,

    Lex

Thanks for not using all caps, they're really hard on the eyes!

Well I'm certainly sorry for your problems, maybe it's one of those karma/dharma issues these.

Also sounds like your local Sony service center is as much or more the problem as the components!

If you look at my "profile", you'll find a raft of Sony gear. All trouble free. I'll keep my fingers crossed however

      Lex

To me it's sounds like your gear is simply possessed. Have you tried an exorcisum?

        Hi all
Ok I am a little calmer now. I guess its hit and miss with Sony. I have 2 sony projectors my self
and have only had problems with the 400Q
I took down my 400Q this afternoon and will let
my client use that untill his gets out of the
repair shop. The problem is not with the Sonys
repair shop its with there Customer service
The Tecs at Sony can only do so much.I still cant
believe they want us to keep taking down and puting up a 145lb CRT that takes 1/2 day to calibrate
each time its moved.I am now offically in the Red
ink on this install because of Sony.Man I cant
wait till a good inexpensive alternative to
CRT is finally here,Mabie the new JVC DILA
budjet models will show some promise.
        Cheers XHT

With Sony it's more miss than hit. I've owned two Sony products, both screwed up, I'll never buy sony again.
I've owned Denon products over the last 10 years...MANY Denon products, and I've not had one problem.
All my Denon's, from car stereos, to 5 disc changers, to a AVR3600 in my small HT system, to my daughters reciever, to a single CD player and older reciever, none have ever given me problems.

Holy crap, Franze! You're really going to town on all the posts today in Front Projection! Good for you, man! :T Some of these threads are oooooooold...

EDIT: (note that this was in response to a series of posts by a new member reviving old threads but adding little value... posts have been deleted)

I have owned a Sony 1292Q projector and despite being big, heavy, and loud (13 fans) it produced and awesome picture, and I had no reliability issues at all.
Plus after owning it for several years I sold it for what I bought it for.
I owned a Sony LD player and reciever and sold them both after years with no problems.
I also owned a Sony 50" widescreen LCD rear projector with zero problems.
I used it every day as a computer monitor and alternate movie display to the 1292Q, and racked up 9000 hours on the original bulb before selling it for more than I paid for it, which is exceptional for consumer electronics.

So even though I currently don't own any Sony products, my experience with them has been totally positive. Maybe I've just been lucky?

wow, a CRT thread (well sorta . HXT, I am bummed to hear about your problems but i'm sure your customer will ultimately recognize the sacrifices you are making. The problem is obviously with Sony's pathetic serice centers (if you want to even call them that). There are literally threads dedicated to Sony service horror stories regarding their products over the last few years.

I have to point out though that it's unfair to paint the 1272Q with the same brush. those machines were rock solid, and if it drifts a little after 10 years of service then that's understandable. you biggest mistake was shipping it to Sony Service. I doubt there is even someone there who knows how to set it up, much less service it.
There is no need to send in the entire machine. CRT's are completely modular and convergence drift just means some capacitors on the C-board need repalcing. You need to contact Curt Palm through the web-site above, he repairs CRt's for a living and even does repairs for Sony. He will quickly tell you which boards to send in.
with clean tubes the 1272Q throws a fantstic pic if you keep the screen-size down to 80" wide or less. If you want to keep it's pic inherent pic qualities without installing another bulb machine in the house, simply upgrade to a newer/more capable G70.

I am surprised that sony had such a bad rep. for service even 6 years ago? With the recent BOMB of blue Ray I wonder what's in store for their stock-holders in the future?

BTW, you're not the "newbie" I was referring to. Some schmuck replied to 70-odd OLD threads and brought them to the top. Those posts have been deleted. So it wasn't you, draganm.

Normally this isn't a problem since the default view is only threads <1 month old. The newbie in question somehow changed his view to reverse order (oldest threads first) AND set his view to all threads from beginning of time. I'm not quite sure how he did that unless he did it on purpose...

Anyway, he is no longer causing problems here.

I didn't take it as directed at me, comedy team of Hanz-n-Franz= not so funny. There was some talk of BR on another forum, but they were referencing a pre-release review that was terrible. People are predicting BR will bomb since the first 25 titles look bad.
