    Far From Heaven

This is a beautifully done film with some excellent acting from Julianne Moore ( she won Oscar for this) and Dennis Quaid, who was sorely overlooked. It has both the look and the feel of my generation ( the fifties). The story deals with the problems of homosexuality, racism and how the gossipy opinions of others can cause a lot of misery. It's one of those films that leaves you thinking long after the credits have faded.

This is film-making at its best.

I bought it last week George, but still haven't had time to see it yet. Can't wait.

        George,

Once again you're right. This is a superb film in every way. The entire cast puts forth exemplary performances, led by Julianne Moore's study of the emotions underlying the image of the 50's housewife and trying to hold things together. The social portrait of America during that time, especially given that it occurs in a Northern state, will be somewhat of a shock to some. A really fine film.

Glad to hear you liked it, Keith. I will enjoy visiting this film again. I had never seen the actor who played the gardener before. He did a superb job, Very low key performance. His relationship with Julianne's character was more implied than shown, and in very good taste in my opinion. The ending was quite sad. The only one who ended up happy was Quaid's character.

I don't know if you noticed, Keith, that although Julianne was obviously pregnant during the making of this film( note the fluffy dresses and thick waist) the scene when she was in a bathing suit at that resort hotel showed a very slim waistline. I assume this was either filmed extra early during her pregnancy, or shortly after.

Dennis Haysbert who plays Raymond has several good works to his credit that I can remember. He plays the President in the TV series 24 Hours and has had parts movies such as Major League, Navy SEALS, Absolute Power, The Thirteenth Floor and Random Hearts. There may be others, too, but they just don't come to mind right now.

I'll have to watch for that next time, but I didn't notice at all. ops: However, I did very much notice how Shirley Jones "grew" during Music Man when I watched that recently. Never noticed it when I watched it as a kid.

Guess we tend to look at women differently when we grow older, eh, Keith.

Tex, thanks for the info on Dessin Haysbert.

Dessin ? What was I drinking ? Change that to Dennis.
