If you have two DVDs in your collection that you are willing to get rid of and an Electronics Boutique in your area, check with them to see if they are participating in the 2-DVD swap for a preordered copy of Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Rings. If they are, simply take in two acceptable used DVD titles and fill out the form and the LOTR: FOTR DVD will be yours next Tuesday!
To find stores in your area, click on http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/default.asp# and then click on "Store Locator" in the lower left hand part of the screen and go from there. In Houston, at least three of six locations are participating -- Galleria, West Oaks Mall and Greenspoint Mall, two are not and I couldn't get through to the sixth.
They are accepting mainstream movie discs only, which is mostly what most of us have anyway. No documentaries, porn, anime or titles that have a "special edition" announced-but-not-released are being accepted (although they do not seem to care about Criterion releases being announced -- just follow-up releases by the original studio.)
Since this applies ONLY to preorders, the deal must be made before August 6th, 2002, but to be safe (to make sure the store has enough copies on hand to fill all the preorders), it makes sense to get in as soon as possible to get it done.
Also, it is advisable to call ahead and make sure the movie DVDs you want to trade are on their "acceptable" list. The folks at stores in Houston will look up titles for you while you wait on the phone -- but I found it necessary to give them spelling hints on a couple of them. :>) But they looked up eight titles for me and five were "OK". Also they say they will not take duplicates of the same title from a given customer (so if you have two copies of "Showgirls" and "Battlefield Earth", you can only get rid of one each.) :>).
This is for the theatrical release widescreen version DVD, not the extended version due out in November. This provides an ideal way to get both without having to plunk down cash for both, and cull out a couple of "loser" titles from your collection in the mean time.
Good luck!
