    Red Panet.

There is a classic sci-fi movie buried under the Hollywood commercialism of this movie. After it was over I'couldn't help but think of how great this movie could have been without the manditory 4 or 5 scenes of "last minute heroism" or "death defying acts"...this is great sci-fi, it's just to hollywood, so I knock it down to a good movie.
The transfer is very good, not quite reference (6th day has really spoiled me).
The soundtrack is excellent, with some very deep bass. In fact today while I was out picking up the new "Crow" SE I tried to find the soundtrack to this movie...it's got the Police (or Sting), Peter Gabriel, and just alot of very interesting stuff, I went into three stores, all were sold out, one guy said he'd sold 2 copies since the DVD came out, so others are liking this ST too!

That's the second intresting recommendation I've seen for this movie in the last couple of days.

If I get into CostCo or Best Buy this weekend, just may have to do somehting about it!

Red Planet and 6th Day are supposed to be at my favorite dealer this week. I've read different reviews on Red Planet. Some bash it. Some praise it. I guess it's one of those movies you have to decide on for yourself.

George, knowing your taste in movies (somewhat) I'll be interested to hear what you think about both!
For me, these are the kind of movies I can watch once very other year (which for me is alot) Not alot of concentration needed, semi smart, and entertaining.

          Hi, Kenny,
I watched 6th Day last night. Awesome transfer and excellent sound. I liked the storyline and Arnie did a good job here, too.I'll definitely watch this baby again soon. As for Red Planet,I let you know what I think after I watch it.

            Hey Kenny,

Finished some planned tweaks last night with the ATI player and AVIA, then had a friend's son over to watch "Red Planet"- very enoyable experience. A few points where I had to use more than a little suspense of disbelief (i.e., downloading the code to run diagnostics on the Russion rock collector, being able to launch it into an orbital window with a tight delta V match to Mars 1, you know, that kind of stuff)- but it was a very enjoyable watch- I guess they found some scenery in Australia they used for the "Mars" location? Very nice transfer, almost reference quality, good sound track, too.

Thanks for the recommendation- even though I'm a sci fi buff, I might not have even tried it, just because Val Kilmer was in it- he's had some real uneven performances in the past, but this one was pretty good.

            Definitely recommended.

            Regards

            Jon

              Kenny-
I liked Red Planet much more than I did Mission To Mars.I really want to watch it again and I feel I may like it even better second time around. BTW, I was glad that Val Kilemr did a subtle job playing the Janitor. As for the transfer and sound - WOW.

It's funny, after I'd seen both Red Planet and M2M at the theater I thought I liked M2M better, but now that I've seen them both again at home, there is no doubt I like Red Planet better.
                SPOILER WARNING...SPOILER WARNING...

It may just be my morbid sense of humor, but I thought the perfect ending to Red Planet would have been for "the Space Janitor" to fire off in the Russian ship...then you see a shot of the orbiter, and behind it you see the Janitor rocket on past...and camera pans to watch him disappear into the vast emptiness of space...missed it by that much...(in my best "get smart")

Now that would have been an appropriate ending.

Kenny that is sick, but cool!

I watched both 6th Day and Red Planet this week. The 6th Day was very good. Red Planet was better than I expected. It was good too.
