    Considering...a change, your input requested

changing the name of this forum area to DIY Xtreme, or Xtreme DIY. What you guys think? Should we change it or leave it as roll your own?

I will listen to all suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Lex

That may keep people from asking "normal" DIY questions.

Yes the "stuff" Jon and I do is "Xtreme" but generally speaking people usually build more "normal" projects

We don't want the regular DIY person to avoid the forum, thinking their project is to "simple"

Remember the DIY community is "relatively" small compared to the total HT community. So everyone should feel welcome.

I hope the DIY section can become an educational tool, as well as a fun resource for people.

I think we can avoid the million questions about ("is it better to have all speaker wire the same lenght?") by having a GOOD FAQ's and a series of "resource" threads. People could then be referred to these in the "sign-up letter" that includes their password.

This could save time/server space/hassle., etc

Thomas, your point is valid, and one that I also thought of. So, it's worth considering, if Xtreme put's to much emphasis on mega-tasks.

But then, building any speaker project on your on is pretty extreme to begin with.

I am still listening, but right now, it looks like we need alternate name suggestions if we change it at all.

        thanks,

        Lex

Pat, you gave me an idea:

Or we could call it Mission Possible DIY.

            How about that one guys?

Well, I didn't wait, I wanted to see the name in the forum, and get a feel for whether it felt right.

Seems pretty cool to me, but your comments welcome! I think the name says, "you can do it". Of course, it also has symbolic meaning for our hobby as well, and that's not bad either. Anything is possible, is a good message to get across to the DIY community. Of course, given that they have the basic skills necessary to complete a project.

We want to remain fluid here. The name change seemed right, so I said go with it. So, unless someone really doesn't like it, why not?

                              Lex,
It appears between Patrick and yourself you have come up with a winner. It has an inviting ring to it!

Andrew, that's way kewl. Thanks for the contribution!

Thank you John. It must have been meant to be, because as soon as I saw what he had typed, it came to me. It wasn't something I had to think about, it was just BOOM!

Be careful what you ask for around here Thomas, lol.

Pat, I had in mind sending you that, but when I scraped it off with my pocket knife, I couldn't get the grooves back together. So, I will just send the flat part to the Patcave! :B

I hate to be the lone dissenter, but this "X" thing has gone to far, it was pretty cool when it first started, but we've been X-ed to death in the last few years. Hell we even have the xfl coming in a few months.
