3"-6" thick slabs of basalt? Talk about non-resonant materials. 2" thick steel plate for the cabinet base, too - and they still look top-heavy to me. Talk about a labor of love. 8)

I really wonder what these sound like.

These speakers are for 'Rock Music" :alol:

I can't ID the tweeters; but the mids and woofers are Seas Excels. Those are world class drivers.

Dan W and the crew at Adire are pretty sharp cookies, so I'd bet that the speakers sound pretty good.....

        Amazing!

Anyone else surprised by the distance between drivers?

I think they are beautiful! Not only do I appreciate the natural beaty of hardwood grain, but also the beauty of rock/minerals. I also wonder about the driver spacing, but James may have chosen that based on his sculpting design esthetics. I'm sure the Adire boys took care of that in the crossover design.

Driver spacing, IMO, should be driven by the wavelength at the crossover point; a good working solution is found from having the center to center distance = 13576/F-Xover

For a crossover of 1250 Hz, that's a bit over 10". At a lower crossover, such as between a midbass and woofer, (say, 250Hz), that would be around 48" or less.

If they have a low crossover to the tweeter, with steep networks (think M8 two way then these spacings seem quite reasonable.

Pretty over the top, overall. Nice artistic statement, but they make building a set of Avalon Klone boxes look easy in comparison.

              Regards,

              Jon

I don't know that I'd go that far, Jon.
