    help with Nautilus 802,

I have an opportunity to buy N 802, they sat in storage for the past year. I have pictures from seller, they look little rough... What is reasonable to pay for them and what should I look for as potential isues if any?

Market price seems to be between 4-5k.

that's what I thought, they don't look their best as some on audiogon. I can't see paying 4500-5000, but 3000-3500 sounds more apealing. We'll see how it goes...

Any chance to hook them up? Even with something quite basic. Just to hear them.

$3k sounds pretty good, especially if they fire up.

he offered to bring them to my place and test them out, I want to look at them 1st. and see what he says for price (he want fair market price), so depending on condition. If the cabinets not in good condition, I'll have to offer him less...
can the cabinets be touched up in any way for scratches and etc.?

Why do people let something so expensive and easily taken care of get that ratty? And then on top of that, not try to clean them up for a sale? As an extra bonus: Comes with free dust build up. Hell, my sixteen year old Cerwin Vegas never got dusty....I have even stored them in a shed, packed them up well with with thick blankets and then plastic over top of that and they're still mint....after sixteen years.

I wouldn't let that bother you though if you can get them for a good price that you feel happy with. You'd be amazed what a little cleaning and detailing can do. I'd be more worried about burned crossovers before dust. You could probably try to get matching wood stain from Home Depot to touch up scratches on the wood, and then automotive swirl remover for the painted marlan head. I had to use swirl remover on my used Sunfire sub because it appeared the original owner used paper towels to clean/dust it with and there was many fine scratches in the glossy finish (I always use automotive quality microfiber rags for dusting/cleaning - paper towels is always a no-no because they can leave scratches). Meguiars swirl remover did the trick.

Keep this in mind, if they are a 7/10 on Audiogon scale, they will be difficult to sell, any lower and alomost impossibel except for a giveaway price. Audiophiles are very nit picky and demand that equipment be kept pristine.

That said, if it is just the wood finish that is scratched up (can't tell from the photos) a complete reveneer may be had for maybe $1000 or possibly less. If you got them for say $3000 and paid $1000 to re-veneer, tiger's eye woudl be really cool. They coudl also probably be black laquered for about the same amount. But you need to get them for a low price because you will be putting some effort into them.

If they are an 8/10 they are worth between $4000 and $5000. No shipping is a big plus but no boxes is a big negative.

yourtoys7, are you the one running the USP Audi A4? If you're not buying the speakers, let me know. I'm in the market for one right now.

No, the guy just stopped answering after I voiced my worry about them being stored in a garage over a year or so, not covered nothing. He never replyed back...

Yes, that is me on black usp' A4. I ended up getting 3 x rf82 Klipsch for now and will be looking for sort of local sale of N802. The 3 towers do wonders with AT screen.

Nothing wrong with RF82s! I had a set I was going to use for a 2nd system but ended up letting them go after realizing that wouldnt come any time soon. Perfect for HT!
