    New G2Si ribbon tweeter - $99

Wow! It just keeps getting better. The G2Si is only 10 mm shorter than the G2 (60 vs 70) but it sells for less than half the price.

Jon how well would a ribbon tweeter like this work with our M8a speakers?

Besides the issue that it will have limited dispersion in the vertical axis (due to ribbon height), it doesn't go nearly low enough. Tweeter crossover point in M8 is 1250 Hz, whereas the rated range for this driver is 1700 Hz on the bottom end.

Even the G3 doesn't have what it takes, though I think you could get the G1 to work OK with the cauer-elliptic filter's 48 dB/octave roll at 1250 Hz. But that's a skosh more expensive at $499 each! And I've heard Dennis Murphy comment that there are some resonances in the lower part of the ESG ribbons range that you want to avoid, so such a low crossover may not be advisable.

Possibly with the cauer-elliptical, one could manage a crossover at 2250 to a Seas 7" Excel woofer without problems, maybe even to an M6a at 2kHz, with the G2.

I'd be very curious, though, if the ribbon held up as well as a Scanspeak 2904/9800 with regards to distortion and settling time at the lower end. Though the published waterfall plots look nice, you have to stay above 2 kHz or the distortion rises very rapidly.

More information on these drivers can be had on LDSG:
