Well my second Sonosub and this is designed using an EBS alignment and is almost done, I just need to hem to the sock.
Here's a pic of it in the room. Nice light reflection up top, eh?
The test procedure:
The sub was corner loaded at in the back corner. Here's the layout (small room, eh?):
Used Spectra Labs RTA for getting the 10%THD on the PC and the mic connection is to the RS Meter. The distance was 2m. In the past, I have measured my first DIY sub with this same technique. If you haven't noticed, this is the same way Tom Nouisane measures subs in S&V mag though my room isn't as big as his.
For the results, I also included Adire's version of LspCAD, which modeled SPL from listening and at 1m distance.
Sub specs are as follows:
Net Volume: 348.4l (12.309ft3) No stuffing or lining.
Two Adire Shiva Mk1.5
Fb: 19Hz, 18.9Hz
Dimensions: 24.5"DIA x 59.750"
Ports: 2(6" x 23.500) I rounded off port length.
Notice the ports when comparing this to other sims, they tell me a longer port to use. Say like 29" or so. Interesting, isn't it?
Here are the results:
Looking at the results, you can see that the sub is flat (besides the nasty mode) to 17Hz in room and LspCAD predicted this on the information window as 16.61Hz but I don't have a test tone in the 16Hz. So I can agree that LspCAD is very, very close!
Overall, look at the frequency response of the line during the real world measurements. It's pretty dang close to what LspCAD predicted!
As of now, I am pretty much sold on LspCAD!
Back to the sub, What do you guys think? I am very impressed with it!
I got some other drivers here to test with the same enclosure. Stay tuned!
Julian
