Having some problems setting up a tempest sub in my room.
the design is as follows. 175L tuned to 17.5hz w/ a 4" flared port with the center tube being 8"s long (Final length of 13"s), stuffed with approx 64oz's of polyfill. The enclosure is a 18" sonotube approx 47.5"s high. After sub displacement, amp displacement, bracing the net enclosure size is 176L's. Could the height of the enclosure cause any cancelation from standing waves inside? The stuffing filled most of the enclosure (Loosely).
Using the Avia disc and the sub level tracks in the subwoofer setup section i set the sub to be approx 3-4db higher then the rest (Radio shack meter). When playing movies like star wars 1 or 2 , U571, etc the subs performance doesn't seem that great. While i can hear the sub playing i can't feel the bass as much as expected. I would of expected to feel the depth charges in U571. Same with the Pod race in star wars 1.
I took some measurements with the radio shack meter.. These are corrected numbers.
80hz - 72db
63hz - 71.5db
50hz - 71.5db
40hz - 77db
31.5hz - 77db
25hz - 77db
20hz - 71db
16hz - 69db
As you can see im getting a very large 6db jump from 40hz to about 25hz. I tried moving the sub away from the corner i originaly put it in, and also to the other side of the room and the 6db increase remained. I stuffed the port to make the enclosure sealed and found the same 6db increase.
Im using the Dt300 amp to power it. with the EQ disabled, switches 1-3 off (Down), switches 4-6 on (up). Reciever is the Denon 2802 and the LFE is set to 0 (max).
Idea's?
