    Belden 89259 DIY speaker cable

I finnished building my first set of cross connected Belden 89259 speaker cables on Apr9.They took about 3 hrs to make and cost $125 CDN (approx $78 US).I had been using Kimber 8TC.Upon installing the new cables in place I immediatly noticed a more layered soundstage, more detail and tighter deeper bass response. These cables are more transparent than the Kimber 8TC and are a super value for what they cost. They also look killer when covered in tech flex (did mine in blue)and the ends heat shrunk.I'll run them for a while then repost an update once they have a few dozen hours on them.So far so good. The pic is not my cable but the same in different covering. http://www.geocities.com/jonrisch/cables.htm

Interesting, Claude. Glad you're enjoying your new set. I have a pair of cables built the same way; they definitely sound different from the Kimber 8TC set that I built, but I'm not sure I'd say better or worse. On objective benchmarks, loop inductance and resistance, they're not quite as good.

The 8 foot 8TC set, measured on an HP4192 network analyzer, has some pretty decent specs

    Loopback Inductance: 0.35 uH
    Distributed Capacitance: 1.36 nF
    Resistance one leg: 0.033 ohm
    Resistance both legs: 0.066 ohm

The Risch recipe are higher resistance of course, and, surprisingly to me, were higher inductance.

The important thing to look at is the synergy in your particular system, and of course, bang for the buck. Specs aren't the end of the world, but then, I don't suspect that the kind of specs Cardas Neutral Reference or Golden Reference delivers (with regards to loop back inductance and resistance) hurts the sound any!

Are you saying the Risch recipe were higher than the Kimber, or higher than another 89259 type? If the latter, which?

      Curiously yours,

        Higher than the 8TC.

        Regards,

I put the Beldens on my secondary system(Sony STRV444ES,DVPNC600,NHT ST4's) to break them in and will end up leaving them there. They worked out better in this system.Nice detailed highs and deep tight bass.Opened up the soundstage real nice.I was running a bi-wired pair of Kimber 4PR.The highs were a little to harsh on my main system with the Beldens.I may try them back on my main system in a couple of weeks.
