    Marchand XM9...the progress

I am in the process of building a Marchand XM9 active crossover and I thought I might share the experience.

Here is the kit, shows the power supply, 2 crossover boards and the case.

First the power supply...the instructions were easy to follow and 1 hour later...

That was a good warm up to get my soldering skills back in shape
The next night I thought I would just work on one of the x-over boards for a little while...next thing you know 3 hours have past and...

The hardest part was figuring out which diode was which...can they make the print any smaller 8O

The next step is to finish the second x-over board and then assemble the case.

      Looking good, Pat!

I like the changes/improvements in the connector interface for these newer XM9 boards. Phil has made some steady improvements over the years.

Which got me to thinking- can I even remember the first time we built a Marchand XM9 crossover?

      Regards,

      Jon

          Looking good Pat

Yup diodes are really tiny and it's certainly important to get them put in the right direction.....

I always use longer lengths than the recommended lengths for the wire bundles. Add 3" to the 'stock lengths', that will give you some play. If you route the wires as per the pics in the manual then the lengths need to be even longer.

            Thanks Guys!

Last night I finished the second x-over board, this one only took me 2.5 hrs...that's a half an hour faster than the first one
I must be getting better

Well I had planned to work on the case a little today but I ended up spending the day with family from out of town. Not exactly what I had in mind, but it was cool. I guess I will be working on the case tomorrow.

Tom, thanks for the tips on the wire lengths.
Good to know before I start cutting

Well, I got everything wired up Sunday.

I went to try it out and I got nothing 8O
I asked ThomasW for his input and he refered me to Phil Marchand.
After an email to Phil, he got me going on the right track.
I had reversed the 2 IC's on the power supply. So after a quick de-solder and re-solder I was in business :T

Overall it wasn't too much trouble...just time consuming
I'd do it again, so I guess it wasn't all that bad 8)

                Pat,

Can you describe exactly what is a Marchand XM9? And how would you use it?

                Eduardo :?

                    Eduardo,
Thomas is correct and I am using it to bi-amp my main speakers.
