    Stryke VS Adire 12

Can anyone tell me how the new Stryke 12" subwooffer compares to Adire's 12" Shiva? Would this speaker be good for a Sonotube design? I tried to compare them with WinISD and the Shiva still looks better. But I'm probably doing something wrong.

I like the new Stryke quite a bit just based on the models I've done. It seems to achieve similar response shapes to Shiva but in smaller boxes and with appreciably greater output due to the higher linear displacement. The huge excursion limits should make bottoming very difficult. The problem with a sonotube sub (by which I assume you mean "ported") is that this driver can move enough air to potentially make it difficult to port adequately in the fairly small boxes it requires.
What size box are you trying to sim?

      Thanks for the reply Jack.

My tube will be 155 L ported. 18" internal diameter by 39" in height. I also plan on using a 4"x17" flared port. I already have the port from Madisound. I also have the PE250 amp.

Well, with the amp decided, there's not a huge advantage to the Stryke. It'll be less subject to bottoming, but the Shiva will actually have a bit more output with that power input...the Stryke can go louder given more power.
I just finished a 141 liter Shiva EBS with that same port and amp and it's excellent, I don't think I'd go bigger than that...why are you going so big?

To be honest a lot of it was guess work and using LSPcad and WinISD. I would welcome any suggestion or ideas. What is the down side of having a larger volume? I can always cut the tube down if needed.

I like 141 liter/18Hz for the Shiva, the basic EBS design from Adire. Which room is this for...what size? The Stryke can use a smaller box/tube for a similar response, but really should have a larger amp and passive radiators instead of a port, imo, to make it worth using.

            Gorgeous home, btw...all settled in?

Yes we are and thank you very much. We already remodeled the kitchen and I plan to update my website soon. I also grew up in Freehold, NJ.

The system is in the Bonus Room. When I use the 141 L config, LSPcad give me high port speed.
But again I'm a neophite. What would be the difference between the sizes?

Yes. Will the sound be cleaner in the smaller enclosure? What are the pros and cons? This is in reference with using the Shiva driver.

In case you haven't checked the preorder thread....

For those interested, pictures of the prototype driver are now up on the page. The prototype used a standard 4 spoke venezuela basket and a 1.75" deep magnet stack. The production verison uses the 12 spoke MTX style basket and a 2" deep magnet stack for more clearance. Also the logo on the dustcap was overlayed. It is planned to have the logo on the production drivers. If anyone who plans to order a woofer really does not care for the logo to be on their driver, let me know and I can get you one without it.
