What speaker softwear are you guys using ?

Bass Box and WinISD are two of the more popular ones used. WinISD can be found here by clicking on the Downloads button.

WinISD is a nice well written "feeware" program. Does the job, no frills, no support, and no "variables" as far as modeling is concerned. But for "freeware" is a great program.

BassBox Pro and BassBox Lite are from http://www.ht-audio.com. These are extremely powerful, and well written programs. Probably the easiest to learn and use, of all commercially available speaker design software. They use a complete "Windows" interface. The manual that comes with BassBox Pro, is almost a complete DIY speaker book, some 200 pages long. It not only covers the operation of the software but has lots of text, explanations, drawings/graphs etc. that deal with speaker building in general. So all in all a very complete pkg.

What many people are doing. is using WinISD to do modeling themselves, then posting questions, and having me run their model in BassBox Pro for comparison and optimization in it's "expert" mode

Now understand that these programs are ONLY for bass/woofer box design.

If you want to design complete speaker systems my suggestion is DON'T. Use one of the parts suppliers that offers LEAP Design. This is the best design software out there and most places will do a LEAP design for $50. This is money well spent.

But if you really want to do crossover design yourself, then get the Xover Easy 3, as a part of the pkg deal from Hassis Tech. Also there is "Sound Easy" from Brodzio, but you need to be a engineer to use it. And it's hardware protected.

Why dont you guys buy Leap and save $50 bucks?
Is Leap a very hard program to learn or expensive to buy?

The description of LEAP starts here http://www.linearx.com/products/soft...AP/LEAP_01.htm and continues on for thirteen full pages. Cost for the full version is $1200.

After building your LEAP designed crossover, you'll then want LMS, (Loudspeaker Measurement System 4.01) also from LinearX, $1500. This will do a complete "realtime" measurement and analysis of your completed design.

You can get the "package deal", LEAP and LMS, for $2331, also don't forget about needing a calibrated microphone, and mic pre-amp ($350-$3000)

This is why paying $50-$75, to have an analysis done is cheap.

Thanks, that info wasn't obvious to me from the website. What/who's microphone is it?. Does it need a pre-amp or can it just run straight into the board?

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this...

The mic that comes with LMS is the M31, it has a preamp built in and connects directly to LMS. It takes it's 9Vdc supply from the card. It works great with a 9V battery too, for use with soundblasters or other measurement tools.

On the otherhand, you can do a very good job of both the bass system design, and for a full range design, using Sound Easy from Bodzio (Australia; available from Old Colony). It is hard lock protected, but is less than $250, and has a lot of good features for multidriver system analysis, crossover filter and system response optimzation (includes a network optimizer, based on acoustic targets you define), and has an intersting room analysis mode, also. I use it combined with CLIO, (it readily imports measurement data from CLIO and other systems) and a seperate B&K mic and HP mic preamp.
