    Light traps anyone.

I realize the thrust of this group is on DIY speakers etc, but still...

Has anyone built a light trap to handle light spill around the edges of blinds / roller shades? If so any advice / techniques to consider?

I'd like to improve the "blackout" a little bit in the HT room, and this would be helpful.

    Regards,

John although it might not be what you're looking for in order to accomplish what you desire I (read wife and mother in law) had to resort to making some thick curtains that I can close. I also kept the blinds in place and when they are both closed its pretty dark in our apartment.

      Andrew,

      That's my initial consideration...

Thanks for the suggestion, that's a good starting point.

Well, there's the quick and dirty my daughter and I used to do when I was running a CRT FPTV, which *really* needs things dark; we had an extra, large comforter, (king, I believe) that we clothes pinned up over the patio sliding doors.

Curtains sounds too organized and efficient, to me. Anything else would involve carpentry around the edges of windows, I guess, which could be a tough sell. ThomasW has some blackout drapes in in living room which accomplish the same thing; maye he'll stop by and enlighten us on where he got them.

With digital lumens in the 1000+ range, and using a retroreflective screen, as long as you keep light directly off the screen from behind you, you're usually in pretty good shape.

        Regards,

        Jon

Unfortunately, the LT-150 is only in the 800 ANSI lumens range, even so, without light control I get a passable picture.

Much better (check the picks in the Video Shop if you haven't already) with substantial light control.

My theater has roller blinds against the windows and then floor to ceiling heavy custom lined drapes. The drapes were in the house when I bought it. They are unfortunately quite expensive
