    Mission impossible?

I have a JBL PSW-1000 sub inwhich the amp is motorboating on me. When in use it emits a low pop, pop, pop intermitently. It dosn't seem to alter the signal, just distracting as H. The red led on the back blinks on and off when this happens. The sub will pop then be good for awhile and then start again.

    My options:
    1) junk it
    2) sell it to you
    3) get a new plate amp for it ($150-200)
    4) get an amp and a new driver and tweek this mo-fo. Don't know how this will turn out given enclosure volume, Q's, F's and the other factors that you guys know more about than me.
    5) get amp repaired. ?? no one in my area to do this.
    6) any other suggestion.

I really appreciate any info on this seemingly impossible mission.

    Thank you
    Rich G

    Hi

Well here are the variables. Problem sounds like a limiting circuit or something in the output stage gone bad. Easiest fix is have JBL do a repair.

Depending on how stout the box is built and it's overall size, get something like a Shiva/PE DVC 12" and a plate amp. Gut the box and install the new parts.

If you have a URL to a description of the sub post it. I'll checkout whether or not it's worth saving.

This is the lind from the jbl website.
If internal dimension would help, I can take them tonight.
It is a 10" sub. I know a 10" is limited in extension. I would prefer better music performance vs. H/T.

      Thank you,

I'd suggest simply replacing the entire unit.
Here are a couple of kit options.

        Or the "active" kits here
