    Muting poll

Guys Rotels being asked to change the way the muting function works and they want our oppinion before they go ahead with it....

Presently when Mute is turned on it's possible to ramp the volume up or down before coming back out of mute. So if the unit is up too load you can engage Mute and then lower the volume and then turn the sound back on at the lower setting. This means the Mute button have to be pressed to turn and On and Off the Mute function.

The proposal is to change the Mute operation so that pressing the Volume Up or Down key disengages Mute. This would mean it would no longer be possible to change the volume setting while Mute is engaged...

So do we leave it as is or change it so volume up/down disengages mute?

Most of my equipment disenages the mute when the volume is pressed. It seems to work well. I would change it.

I vote for leaving it as is.......................unless they can also make the volume ramp up and down faster.

leave it and concentrate on the most pressing problems like the bass management.

I guess if I had to choose, I'd say to leave it as it is. Nonetheless, this is not a pressing issue at all for me personally.

I'm happy with the way it is, so no change is needed.

I say leave it, and I do care. The volume levels of some source are louder than others, and being able to adjust the volume while muted is very useful. If I turn the system on to watch some news after my wife has gone to bed, and the last thing we were previously watching was a DVD at near reference level, I don't want to wake the whole house up. So I routinely mute the sound and then lower the volume to more manageable levels.

I also second what somebody else said though, ramping the volume up or down is much too slow on the 1066, make it faster if possible.

                          In order of preference:

                          1. Leave it. Works fine.
                          2. Do it Sony style:
                          - Mute and then volume down = still mute.
                          - Mute and then volume up = disengage.

Please do not change to disengage MUTE when volume down is pressed, I agree 100% with previous poster.

Tell them to fix things that ARE important ...double bass, rec display, feet vs. milisec speaker settings, etc

One more thing. I hope that if and when they mess with the mute button, they don't alter our ability to determine what version of firmware we have via that mechanism.

I like the mute the way it is.

Please don't change it, it's perfect.

I'd leave it the way it is with one exception.

Turn off the Mute when turning the volume up. That way you can avoid blowing your speakers if someone who's not familiar with your system is at the controls and starts turning it way up and then unmutes it. Also, fix the speed of the volume adjustments AND include the volume level IN NUMBERS on the OSD. It makes no sense to me why they have it only on the faceplate in the first place.
