            I forget the model...

but Sony has a very good SACD player. It listed for 5K new and I'm sure it's well below that on the used market. I have a Rega Planet that I like very much.

            Good Luck, Pogue

I have the Rega Jupiter, and while it's a pretty good player in it's price range, I am sure there are 4K players that likely better it in it's poultry 2K price range I think it was. The Jupiter doesn't sugar coat Redbooks, (It calls em' like it see's em!) Crap in crap out, lol. But it will do an outstanding job on playback of such favorites as Nora Jones first CD, Miles Davis, etc.. on my own system.

i just went from the Rotel 1060 to the Arcam dv29, for CD playback it is absolutely the single best improvement i have made in sound, even some before unlistenable CD's are now very enjoyable to listen to, but the good ones are just even so much better,

for$3000, not sure what is better for an all around player

                            holiday cheers to all

For one advantage of top loading:
less moving parts, (no drawer) usually means lower distortion, improved playback. Less chances of a slipped disc? lol.
